The World Is Changing - And So Is ODS.......
To our loyal racers and friends: Change is
happening throughout NASCAR. Just look at the Nextel Cup
"Car of Tomorrow." Years ago, in the 60's, Old
Dominion Speedway stopped running the open-wheeled Modified
cars. That was a big change. Then Old Dominion Speedway ran
the Sportsman cars, which are now the Busch cars, soon to
become the Nationwide cars for 2008. Then, in the early 80's,
Old Dominion Speedway created the Late Model Stock Car. That
was a necessary change, as well, to keep stock car racing
healthy at Old Dominion Speedway. In an effort to keep stock
car racing alive in Manassas and to keep Old Dominion Speedway
in operation, it is now time for another change. We don't want
to obsolete anyone's equipment. We are trying to get
everyone's car equal on the track. We are trying to reduce the
cost of weekly racing in an effort to keep all of our current
racers and get some of the cars in garages around the area
back on the track. This is not an easy task. There are plenty
of opinions about what kind of changes to make. We have
weighed everything we've seen and heard and feel that the
changes we are making for the 2008 season are the best place
to start. Certainly, some modifications will have to be made.
Nothing is set in stone. Just like in the Cup series, parity
is the most important thing, along with keeping the cost of
the transition down. At Old Dominion Speedway, we are doing
what is being done at other short tracks all over the country
in order to build new and exciting racing programs. The main
thing right now is that we need everyone to work with us to
make a successful transition to a new track division that will
allow us to race together for a long time to come. We thank
you for your support in the past and look forward to your
support in the future.
The owners and staff of Old Dominion Speedway.
ATTENTION RACERS:
Transponders – All cars in divisions that require transponders must
have a working transponder at all times when on the racetrack.
No transponder, no practice.
If you do not yet have a transponder or have a problem with the one
on the car, you may rent a track transponder for the day at the registration
trailer. This includes the 3 Saturday practices coming up on 3/15, 3/22,
and 3/29 -
Restrictor Plates – All Late Model motors requiring restrictor
plates by the 2008 ODS rules must be fitted with the approved restrictor
plate available from the track at all times in practice and on race days.
Any car found on the track without a restrictor plate in place will
immediately install the plate, will not be permitted to practice or qualify,
and will have to start at the rear of the field. This includes the 3
Saturday practices coming up on 3/15, 3/22, and 3/29 -
Tires – All ODS Late Model and Mini-Modified tires will be tracked
by bar code numbers this season. When
purchasing tires on race day, they must be purchased by car number and
remain with that car only, for the life of the tire.
No swapping of tires between teams or between cars on a multi-car
team will be permitted. The
bar code numbers from tires will be recorded on sales slips prior to leaving
the tire compound and will be used by the tech staff to check tires at
random intervals during events, including pre- and post- qualifying and
post-race. TBD penalties will be
imposed for use of any but approved tires during an event.
