Brenner Takes Second Feature Win In 2008 …….5/17/08

It's been a month since the sounds of the NASCAR / Whelen All-American Series could be heard from the Old Dominion Speedway, but when they returned and after the smoke had cleared, it was Adam Brenner once again standing in victory lane. Brenner, who had earlier in the day qualified 5th, benefited from his front row starting spot to take command of the event early, and breezed to his second win of the 2008 season in his Moe's Southwest Grille sponsored Ford. The win closed the gap between himself and Willard Lawrence in the Foster's Grille Pontiac to 18 points. Lawrence brought his ride home in the second spot. The new NASCAR point system gives the winner an additional 5 points, so Brenner was able to pick up 7 points on Lawrence. Finishing third was Robert Bruce in the J&J Music-To-Go Chevy, followed by the Va. BBQ Chevy of Les Miranda, and Bobby Able took home his 3rd win in 3 starts in 2008, taking the checkers in the 30-lap Mini Modified feature. Able took advantage of the ill handling Ford of Carte, who had led for most of the event, and took the lead late in the going. Carte was able to hold off Jason Darne at the end. Roger Austin Jr. returned to his winning ways, taking the lead from Kristen Keyes and breezing to his second win of the season in the Finish Line Towing / INEX Legends 30-lap feature. The race was stopped at lap 27 for an incident in turn one involving Dave Daniels, point leader David Polenz, and Matt Cannon. Cannon and Polenz collided and swept up Daniels in the incident. Daniels was later taken to the hospital with a concussion and some other minor injuries. He was released later that night and will return to ODS next week. Once the race resumed, Austin held off Jason Simmons for the win by 1.310 seconds. Polenz managed to make his way up to third after the crash in turn one. He was followed by Keenan Simmons, and John Janszen Jr. Brian Fox and Billy Ingle once again staged a spectacular battle for the win in the 20-lap Victory Lane Graphix / Advanced Auto Care UCAR feature. This time it was Fox that came out on top as Ingle's car wore out the right front tire at the end. The win was Fox's third of the season. He now leads Ingle by just 2 points in the series standings. Greg Sites came third, followed by Steve Brady, and Amber Abrams. Next Saturday night, the Old Dominion Late Models return to the 3/8 mile oval for a 100-lap event. Also on the schedule is a 30-lap feature for the Mini Modifieds, 30 laps for the Legends, 20 laps for the UCARS, and the a special feature for the SRL Mini Cups. Practice begins at 2PM, qualifying is set for 5PM, with racing action taking the green at 7PM.
