Rains Plague ODS Again.......
5/31/08
For the third time in eight weeks, torrential rains have
halted the activities scheduled at the Old Dominion Speedway in Manassas.
Just before the 2 PM practice session was to begin, the first of several
bands of showers pelted the 3/8 mile oval. Track officials had no choice
but to make the call. On the schedule for the first time was the Va.
Sprint Series, a division that runs mainly on dirt. For many of the
drivers, this would have been the first time racing on pavement. They were
able to take to the track twice, however, before the official practice
session began. It did not take long for the drivers to get used to
pavement. Donald "Satch" Worley, a veteran of many years in the
sport, was clocked unofficially in the 14 second bracket in his winged
machine. These super-powered sprint cars will return to ODS on June 21st.
Next Saturday night, the Old Dominion Speedway will feature a 75 lap event
for the Late Models, twin 20 lap features for the Mini Modifieds, 20 laps
for the UCAR's, and 30 laps for the Legends. Practice begins at 2 PM, with
qualifying starting at 5 PM. Racing action will take the green at 7 PM.
