Lawrence Picks Up 2, Brenner Takes 1 At ODS.......6/28/08

Willard Lawrence and Adam Brenner were the big winners at the Old Dominion Speedway Saturday night, taking home wins in the Late Model features. Brenner took home the win after a week-long delay due to weather last Saturday night. He was leading at the 30 lap mark when rains came through the area on 6/21. The race was resumed last night at that point, and finished with Brenner taking home his 4th win of the season. Mike Southard would battle point leader Willard Lawrence throughout the remaining 40 laps, finally taking the 2nd spot lat in the event, and holding on for his 2nd place finishing position. Lawrence would take the third spot, while Les Miranda and Kevin Hall rounded out the top 5. In the first of the scheduled Twin 50 lap events for the original June 28th schedule, Lawrence followed early leader Ray Terczak for most of the event, but would make a bold move after the leaders were caught behind heavy lapped traffic with 2 laps to go. This enabled Lawrence to take the top spot and the win for his 4th win of the season. Terczak, still looking for that elusive first win, settled for 2nd. Rounding out the top 5 were Mike Southard, Adam Brenner, and Les Miranda. In the second 50 lap feature, Lawrence once again proved he was the car to beat, taking home the checkers over Southard, followed by Brenner, Doug Liberman, and Terczak. Roger Austin Jr. took home the checkers for the 3rd time this season, holding off a hard-charging Ryan Ellis for the win. Ellis dogged Austin for most of the event, but fell by less than half a second at the end. Point leader David Polenz came home third, while Matt Cannon and Joe Hendricks rounded out the top 5. Davey Callihan made it two-for-two, taking the win in the 30 lap Mini Modified feature. Taking the lead early in the event, it was no contest as he breezed home ahead of Jason Darne, Scott Gore, and Mike Carte. Bryan Fox continued his winning ways, taking the win in the 20 lap UCAR feature. Fox passed early leader Billy Ingle late in the event, and sprinted home for the win by less than a car length. Quick qualifier Jeff Beamer finished third, while Tyler Cypher and Greg Sites rounded out the top 5. Next Saturday night will be a special night at the Old Dominion Speedway. Starting the day off in celebration of the 4th of July weekend, there will be a car show to benefit the troops. Then racing action begins with a special event for the vintage cars of yesteryear - bringing back memories of when racing was in it's younger years. In addition, the Legends cars compete in a National qualifier event that will be 50 laps. Many of the top Legends drivers form around the country are expected to attend. And the UCARS will also be a part of the special night, competing in a special 30 lap feature for the first time in 2008. Starting times will be announced later in the week, so check back at www.olddominionspeedway.com often.
