Terczak Finally Closes The Deal…….7/12/08

"It's been a long time coming" was the only thing Ray Terczak from Woodbridge Va. could say after winning his first ever feature at the Old Dominion Speedway Saturday night. Terczak started on the front row, and guided his Dulles Jet Center Chevy to the win, leading all the way in the 75-lap feature for the NASCAR / Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Cars. The veteran held off a hard-charging Robert Bruce in the J&J Music-To-Go Chevy by just .441 seconds when the checkers fell. Earlier in the evening, it was point leader and 5-time feature winner Willard Lawrence in the Foster's Grille Pontiac taking his 5th Miller Lite Quick Qualifying award, circling the 3/8 mile oval in 16.233 seconds. Bruce qualified a solid second with a 16.356, while Les Miranda in the H.O. Engen Chevy qualified 3rd with a 16.380 lap. Doug Liberman's Larson Engineering Chevy was 4th quickest with a 16.404 lap, while Terczak wound up 5th with a 16.455 lap. With the inversion, Terczak would end up starting on the pole, with Bruce on the outside. Liberman started 3rd, while 4-time feature winner Adam Brenner in the Moe's Southwest Grille Ford started 4th. The green dropped and Terczak wasted little time taking the top spot, and led the 19-car charge into turn one. The field quickly strung out, most drivers biding their time at first, wanting not to put any additional wear on the tires. Lawrence, who started 6th, began a charge to the front, only to be swept up in an incident involving several cars in turn 3 that also damaged Miranda. Lawrence was done for the night, and Miranda eventually had to park his ride due to overheating. From that point, it was Terczak, who had been ever so close in the past to getting the first win. But tonight, he was not to be denied. "The car was so great tonight, it handled perfect," he said. "And starting from the front row kinda helps too," he added as a big grin appeared on his face. The top 5 finishers at the end were Terczak, Bruce, Brenner, Kevin Hall, who started from the 8th spot in his K&J Services Chevy, and Michael Arnold in the EV Air Tight Pontiac. The Legend Donald "Satch" Worley took home the win in the 25-lap Va. Sprint Series feature, taking over the lead before the halfway point, and beating Jerald Harris to the stripe by less than 2 car lengths. French Grimes came home 3rd, while Scott Vasminder and Mike Marr rounded out the top 5. Steven Teter took home the win in the 20-lap SRL Mini Cup feature, but not without a bit of controversy. Steven Cox, who has several feature wins and the track record at ODS, took over the lead from Tim Brown on lap 5, and appeared to have the better car as he held off Teter. But on lap 11, the 2 leaders collided and Teter took over the top spot. Cox was able to hold on to his car and not spin, but lost a lot of ground. He was able to make up the time, and actually took a stab at the win on the last lap, but came up short by .771 seconds. The fireworks continued after the checkers as Cox rammed Teter on the cool-down lap. Both drivers wanted a piece of the other in victory lane, but the chaos was quickly dissipated by track officials. As of this release, the official order of finish stands as Teter the winner, followed by Cox, Joseph Bissom, Jody Hensley, and Paul Breeden. Bobby Able breezed to his 4th win of the 2008 season, easily taking the win in the 30-lap Mini Modified feature. Mike Carte took home the second spot, while Scott Gore, Jason Darne, and Keith Riley rounded out the top 5. Point leader Bryan Fox took the checkers for the 5th time this season, holding off a determined Greg Sites for the win. Billy Ingle held on for 3rd, while 15-year old Tyler Cypher and James Beavers rounded out the top 5. Next Saturday night, the Late Models will be featured in Twin 50-lap events. Also on the schedule is a 30-lap feature for the Finish Line Towing / INEX Legends, a 30-lap feature for the Mini Modifieds, and a 20-lap event for the UCAR's. Practice begins at 2PM, qualifying starts at 5PM, with racing action set to take the green at 7PM.
