Lawrence, Ingle, Polenz, Callihan -
Feature Winners At ODS.......7/26/08

Willard Lawrence continued his dominance, Billy Ingle took over the point lead, David Polenz bumped is way to another feature win, and Davey Callihan made it 4-for-4 Saturday night at the Old Dominion Speedway. Lawrence picked up his 7th feature win in dominating style, leading flag-to-flag in the NASCAR / Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car 75-lap feature. Starting from the outside pole in his Foster's Grille Pontiac, Lawrence took over the lead on actually the second green flag to start the event. The first attempt to start the feature was marred by an incident involving 4-time feature winner Adam Brenner, who's Moe's Southwest Grille Ford spun coming out of turn four, and then was slammed by Rich Graves. Graves was done for the night with heavy front end damage, while Brenner limped down pit road for repairs as the field was stopped while track crews cleaned up the carnage. Brenner's crew would repair the damage, but he would have to re-start in the rear of the 16 car field. Once again the green was displayed, and Lawrence led the charge into turn one, beating the H.O.Engen Chevy of polesitter Les Miranda into the corner. The field quickly stabilized, with most of the top ten drivers saving those 8-inch tires for the end. The early battle would be for the second spot between Miranda, the Larson Engineering Chevy of Doug Liberman, and the Dulles Jet Center Chevy of Ray Terczak. Liberman would root his way around Miranda in lap 12 and take over the second spot, dropping Miranda back to third. Miranda then had to hold off Terczak, who was busy with the Try-It Racing Chevy of Mike Southard. On lap 67, Liberman's car went high in turn one, almost spinning, which opened the door for Miranda to take the second spot back. Miranda then set his sights on Lawrence, who had built up a comfortable lead. But the laps ran out and Miranda finished 1.060 seconds behind at the checkers. Liberman held on for third, while Terczak and South rounded out the top 5. Billy Ingle took home both feature wins in the twin Advanced Auto Care / Victory Lane Graphix UCAR features. Starting from the last row in both features, Ingle quickly diced his way through the field, and was leading in both feature events by halfway. In the first event, point leader Bryan Fox was caught up in an incident, which knocked the power steering hose off his Huhn's Shell Cavalier. The incident forced him into the pits while his crew worked on the crippled machine. He was able to re-join the field, but would be credited with last place in the event. Ingle, in the meantime, took home the win in his McGee's Crane Rental Dodge, beating a rapidly closing Albert Anderson to the stripe. The second event was pretty much the same scenario, with Ingle starting from the back, and making his way to the front. This time, Fox's machine was the runner-up, just a few car lengths behind. With his win, and Fox's misfortune, Ingle now leads the points chase by 4 points. INEX Legends point leader David Polenz from Pattenburg, NJ, took over the lead on lap 24 after an incident involving the leaders, and breezed home to his 6th win of the season in the 30-lap event. Polenz, along with leader John Janson Jr., Roger Austin Jr., and Matt Cannon, were all battling for the win from the drop of the green. Positions changed on a regular basis as each driver went for the top spot held by Janson Jr. Then on lap 23, Janson's car suddenly went sideways, blocking the track. Polenz slithered by, but Austin Jr. and Cannon were all collected. Kristin Keyes, the 17-year young lady from Maryland, also slid by and wound up second when the caution waved. Austin was done for the night with the rear end on his machine dumping fluid. Janson and Cannon were able to return to the event, but restarted in the rear of the field. Keyes, Jeff Harms, and Darrell Vance took the green after the clean-up as the top 4 drivers. Cannon would make his way back up to third when the checkers flew. The top 5 finishers were Polenz, Keyes, Cannon, Vance, and Janson Jr. Davey Callihan made it 4-for-4 by winning his fourth feature event in the 30-lap Mini Modified event. Scott Gore would finish a distant second, followed by point leader Bobby Able, Mike Carte, and Keith Riley. Able still leads the points, despite missing one event. He holds an 18 point lead over Gore and Carte, who are tied for second. Next Saturday night, the Late Models compete in twin 35 lap events. Also on the schedule is a 30 lap event for the Legends, 20 laps for the UCAR's, and 30 laps for the Mini Modifieds. Practice begins at 2PM, qualifying is set for 5PM, with racing action taking the green at 7PM.
